This mushroom with funereal aspect is a close relative of the chanterelle and, like them, being an excellent edible fresh or dried. It is a dark fungus, almost black. This mushroom is not attractive, but it has a very good taste. It is hard to find because of its small size and dark color, easily confused with litter on the forest floor
Its aroma has personality, with a strong background of wild stuff, but with an initial entry or light sweet fragrance and at the same time as spice. Meat, dry and thin, is tough and elastic.
The fruiting body is funnel shaped and its color is blackish when wet, is more clear, almost gray when dry.
It grows in wet areas of coniferous forests in the middle of winter and early spring.
